Astrology’s 12 Houses
Listen. You’re probably aware that astrology is much more than just your Sun sign horoscope.
You, my friend, are more than a ten-word statement in the Lifestyle section of your local newspaper that describes your fate according to the stars. Oh, God!
Given that you’re a sentient person in 2022, you’ve undoubtedly downloaded Co—star and let it nag you almost everyday. Maybe you tried Sanctuary World, a less sour horoscope app. And you double-tapped astrological activist Chani Nicholas’ IG post, right? Obvi.
Most of us, however, neglect the 12 zodiac houses, which form the foundation of the natal chart. Understanding the placement of planets in the 12 zodiac houses is an important part of natal chart interpretation.
The interpretation of your chart depends on where each planet and sign sits in your natal chart. A Leo Sun in the first house is not the same as a Leo Sun in the eighth house.
To help you make sense of it all, I’ve included a free download at the end of this article.
THE 12 HOUSES ORDER
I suggest pulling up your natal chart first. It will make the procedure more relatable and easier to understand. We remember things better when they are personal to us.
There are many places to get a free natal chart, but these are my favourites. Cafe Astrology and Astro-app.net are great for newbies! It doesn’t matter as long as you have the 12 houses on your chart.
Examine your natal chart. It’s arranged up in a clockwise circle, thus it’s organised like a clock. And it begins at 9 a.m. instead of 12 a.m. But it ticks like a clock. You see.
Your Rising sign is the sign in your First House, the house at 9 o’clock. The dwellings line up with Earth’s 24-hour rotation. The rising sign in the east becomes your first house; so, your Rising sign is where the zodiac wheel begins.
12 ASTROLOGICAL HOUSES
There are 12 houses, 12 signs (Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, etc.) and ten planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury …)
Like each sign and planet, each home has a purpose. Yes, it does.
Now things get a little more tricky. But a planet also regulates each house. Look for the astrological glyphs on the border of your wheel to see which planet rules which house. They always follow the zodiac.
Your First House rulership would be Aries if you were an Aries Rising. Your Second House ruler is Taurus, which follows Aries in the zodiac.
PLANETS AND SIGNS IN ACTION
Then you’ll look at your natal chart to see where all of your planets are located. Sun in 3rd, Venus in 8th and Pluto 12th. Using our example above, you know that Aries rules your First House, Taurus rules your Second House, Gemini rules your Third House, Scorpio rules your Eighth House, and Pisces rules your Twelfth.
Your Sun is in Gemini’s Third House.
Venus in Scorpio’s Eighth House
Pluto in Pisces 12th House
The Sun represents ego and self, Venus represents love, and Pluto represents death and dying. But the planet’s zodiac sign effects how it behaves in your chart.
For example, Venus in the 8th in Scorpio is a holy shit. Your love life is heavily influenced by Scorpio energy, as #Venus rules sex, death, and change. It’s possible that you’re a freak in bed… or that you’re a Scorpio who reinvents herself every time she enters a relationship.
The planets and zodiac, like many intuitive arts, ask us to interpret meanings of placements ourselves.
In your natal chart, note which houses have several planets and which houses are empty. Examine your chart’s balance. When multiple planets congregate in one area of our chart, it usually means that area is vital in our life. A lack of planets in a house does not imply a lack of activity in that location. It only implies there are less affecting factors.
OK, without further ado, here are the 12 houses of the end! The 12 Astrological Houses!
ASTROLOGY’S 12 HOUSES
First House:HOUSE OF THE ASCENDANT MASK
Your first home is a cosmic first impression. This house’s inhabitants help you understand how others see you. It can also explain your physical appearance, body, attitude, and general outlook on life.
Second House : HOUSE OF RESOURCES
Rain! The second house is all about money and personal assets. Personal resources are components of your life that help you feel secure and supported. Life skills, self-esteem, confidence, etc. When planets pass through this house, it can affect our self-esteem or resources.
Third House : HOUSE OF OPEN PERCEPTION
The third house is all about how we interact with the world – even subtly. Communication can be applied to our local community and how we connect and communicate. When planets transit the third house, we can learn a lot about those around us.
Fourth House : HOUSE OF NADIR
The fourth house is near the bottom of the natal chart. It’s our natal chart’s basis, thus it signifies home and roots. This house will teach you more about what makes you feel safe and secure. You’ll also learn about your figurative home surroundings.
Fifth House : HOUSE OF JOY AND BLISS
It’s a This is the home of creativity, joy, and children. I know — pleasure and kids??? (KIDDING.) But actually, this house is all about experiencing a child’s joy. Consider your childhood creativity and sense of freedom. This is a common occurrence in the chart.
Sixth House : LEGACY, HEALTH, LINEAGE AND SERVICE
The Sixth House is all about helping others utilising your unique talents. So does this house. This house is centred on how you physically show up in the world. If you’re a health nut, you may have multiple planets or transits here.
Seventh House : HOUSE OF DESCENDANTS, RELATIONSHIPS, AND PEOPLE
The Seventh House can help you understand your close relationships. This house’s knowledge helps us understand where our dependencies or patterns in close relationships may arise. Transits through this house may alter how you interact with your loved ones.
Eight House : TRANSFORMATION AND DEATH
To be honest, I love the Eighth House! Maybe it’s because my Sun and a slew of other planets call this place home, but it always feels mystical and celestial. Birth, death, sex, metamorphosis, mystery, fused energies are all ruled by the 8th House. Scorpio represents it, so dig deep, son. Like me, you may be fascinated by magic, mysticism, and the unconscious qualities of the planets in this house.
Ninth House : HOUSE OF PARADIGMS
The Ninth House is all about personal growth, expansion, inspiration, and philosophy. To me, this mansion reflects the voyage. Transits in this house could indicate a long-distance trip or a major change in lifestyle. Look to this house for surprises, delights, and inspiration.
Tenth House : HOUSE OF MIDHEAVEN
Your Midheaven tells us your ultimate purpose, job path, and destiny. NBD! The Tenth House is at the top of the chart, so it’s evident to us. When others first meet you, they may notice or comprehend some of the features or characteristics associated with the planets in this house. If you want to know more about your career, focus on your Midheaven.
Eleventh House : HOUSE OF BFFs FOR LIFE.
The 11th House rules friendship. Every type of group imaginable. Interestingly, the Eleventh House governs electronics and technology.
Twelfth House : HOUSE OF SPIRITUAL LIBERATION
Best home. Last home. The Twelfth House is the darkness before the morning. The Twelfth House was traditionally viewed poorly. It was scary. It’s not all horrible. It’s a location where hidden things surface. It governs the subconscious mind, secrets, and riddles.
Looking at your natal chart and comprehending the 12 Houses of the zodiac may reveal so much about you! Consider your natal chart’s current transits (what is going on in the sky right now as the planets orbit). If you’re experiencing problems or having amazing success and aren’t sure why, check your natal chart!
